International film festival in Locarno
International annual film festival is held every August since 1946 in Locarno. It belongs to the world’s most important cinema festivals (category „A”). In summer 2011 the 64th festival edition took place in Locarno.
Within 10 days hundreds of films are presented to the visitors on the large screen direct at the Piazza Grande. This is one of the most beautiful open-air events in Europe with more than 8.000 spectators annually. The best film of the year is awarded with the golden leopard (Pardo d'Oro).
